Read our response to the Work and Pension Committee’s inquiry Universal Credit: the wait for a first payment. We know that the five-week delay people face before receiving their first Universal Credit payment can cause financial hardship and psychological harm. In our response, we recommend ending the five-week delay and making the benefits system more accessible to people with mental health problems.
