Submission to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s Review of the Gambling Act 2005

1 April 2021

Read our response to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s call for evidence on its review of the Gambling Act 2005. Our evidence highlights how the nature of online gambling can make it difficult for some people with mental health problems to stay in control. Regulation has not kept pace with the risks presented by online gambling, and action that is taken to tackle such harms is often too slow. Our response calls for updated and strengthened  regulation — including on the design of games and limits on spending — that would deliver greater protection by default, as well as improved support and redress systems.
