Debt and mental health: A statistical update

Money and mental health problems are a marriage made in hell. There is a strong statistical relationship between these problems and often they can feed off each other, creating a vicious cycle of worsening mental health and growing financial difficulties.

This policy note draws on exclusive analysis of new national data from the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey, to offer the most up-to-date statistics on the relationship between debt and mental health problems. It also sets out implications for policymakers, service providers and essential services firms.
