Money and Mental Health’s response to the government’s consultation on Breathing Space scheme

30 January 2019

In 2018, we campaigned to secure an extension to the government’s Breathing Space debt respite scheme, to ensure that people receiving NHS treatment for a mental health crisis are able to benefit from the protections the scheme offered – including an eight week break from further collections activity on their debt. The government committed to introducing an alternative means of accessing the scheme for this group. In this consultation response, we draw on the views of our Research Community to assess how this alternative access mechanism could work.
