A new Freedom of Information exercise by the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute has found that, while there are some pockets of good practice, the UK’s health system is not systematically addressing financial difficulty in mental health services. Without a systematic approach, support to address the financial difficulties that can both cause and perpetuate mental health problems is patchy and its impact limited.
In this report, we assess the extent to which mental health services systematically recognise and respond to this relationship between financial difficulty and mental health problems. We explore where there are gaps in existing provision and where better coordination could improve services for people with mental health problems who are experiencing financial difficulty.
