GPs charge £150 for sick notes to help the mentally ill

GPs are charging patients up to £150 for the “sick notes” required by banks and other lenders to help customers with mental illnesses manage their debts, according to a study.

One in three patients with illnesses such as depression or bipolar disorder has been charged for Debt and Mental Health Evidence Forms. The charge is typically between £20 and £30 but is often as much as £150.
