The links between mental health and financial behaviour
Our money and our mental health are intimately connected, often forming a vicious cycle.
This research examined how people’s mental health affected their attitudes towards their finances during the pandemic.
It shows that most people experiencing mental health problems felt anxious about their financial situation, and nearly half (46%) said they can’t afford to save money regularly.
Experiencing mental health problems can also have a big impact on people’s financial behaviour. The majority of our survey respondents with mental health problems said that during a period of poor mental health, they can find it hard to make financial decisions, and have spent more money than they usually do due to increased costs.
